Alanis Morissette is a Grammy-winning singer behind hits like “You Oughta Know” and “Thank U,” but these days her personal life is making just as much noise. The music icon recently came out as pansexual, and she has been happily married to fellow musician Souleye for more than 15 years. Before she settled down, she had high-profile romances with some major A-list stars!
Keep reading for everything to know about Alanis’s love life.
Alanis & Souleye’s Marriage
Alanis has been married to Souleye, born Mario Treadway, since 2010. The couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at the singer’s Los Angeles home on May 22 of that year, as reported by Today. Souleye is a rapper and musician, and the pair share three children, Ever, Onyx and Winter.
The singer made headlines again in November 2026 when she came out as pansexual during an appearance on the “Handsome” podcast. The revelation quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of her year.
“I’m pansexual, so, yeah,” Alanis said.
Her candid confession arrived during a busy stretch for the star, who released her holiday album Good Weather for Immaculate Conception in November 2026. She has remained married to Souleye throughout, and over the years she has spoken warmly about their evolving bond.
“I think it’s getting juicy as we’re going on the third phase of helping each other heal and grow,” she told Us Weekly.
Her Romance With Ryan Reynolds
Long before Souleye, Alanis dated Ryan Reynolds from 2002 to 2007. The two got engaged in 2004, though they ultimately called off the engagement and parted ways as friends. Their high-profile romance played out in the public eye at the height of her fame. Reynolds went on to marry Blake Lively, with whom he shares three children.
Alanis has said the breakup inspired her song “Torch,” featured on her 2008 album Flavors of Entanglement.
Alanis & ‘Full House’ Alum Dave Coulier
Earlier in her career, Alanis dated Full House alum Dave Coulier, with the pair together from 1992 to 1994, just before Jagged Little Pill made her a global star. The 1995 album went on to sell more than 33 million copies worldwide. The comedian is best known for playing the lovable Joey Gladstone on the hit sitcom. For years, fans have speculated that her breakup anthem “You Oughta Know” was written about the comedian.
Coulier himself has said he believes the song may be about him, though Alanis has never confirmed who inspired it.
