At Silverstone in 2015, Mercedes sent its mechanics into the pit lane with tyres and wheel guns ready, making Williams think Lewis Hamilton was about to stop. But Mercedes never actually pitted.
It was a strategic bluff designed to pressure Williams into reacting early. A few laps later, Hamilton made his real stop, used the undercut, and jumped both Williams cars.
Sometimes in F1, the smartest pit stop is the one that never happens.
