Tony Iommi Releases From the Dark, First Solo Album in Over 20 Years
Legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has delivered his first solo album in over 20 years with From the Dark.
From the Dark is eight tracks of classic Sabbathian heavy metal, echoing the skyscraping riffs the band pursued through the ’80s and ’90s, and achieving the cinematic height those albums strove to capture.

Both songs, like the rest of the album, showcase a fusion of doom metal, traditional heavy metal, and elements of US power metal, all genres through which Tony Iommi is arguably the most influential guitarist of all time.
The album features Norwegian singer Jørn Lande on all tracks, and his performance combines the ferocity of Ronnie James Dio with the aggression of thrash vocalists like James Hetfield. The rest of the band (bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil) put in performances that would make Geezer Butler, Carmine Appice, and Cozy Powell proud.
Fans can also catch Iommi in the new concert film Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning, featuring footage of the final performances of both Black Sabbath as well as Ozzy Osbourne. The movie will be released in theaters on October 28th, with tickets available here.
