Chelsea star’s agents in showdown talks as Liverpool eye move to sign him
Liverpool’s January planning is attracting plenty of attention, with midfield targets and options at right-back continuing to feature in reports.
Alex Scott has been one of the names most frequently mentioned as the Reds assess how to strengthen Andoni Iraola’s squad.
Sky Sports reported last week that Liverpool retain an interest in the Bournemouth midfielder, whose refusal to agree fresh terms has complicated his club’s position.
An offer of around £80-£100m could persuade Bournemouth to consider a January sale, although they would prefer to keep him.
Scott’s existing deal runs until 2028, meaning he will enter the final 18 months of his contract when the next window opens. His familiarity with Iraola adds another point of interest, having worked under the Liverpool manager during their time at Bournemouth.

That creates an interesting situation for Liverpool, but there are reasons to be cautious about expecting an immediate move.
David Lynch has suggested a midfield signing is more likely to become a pressing issue next summer, rather than something Liverpool currently feel compelled to do in January.
Lamine Camara is another player being followed, and Fabrizio Romano has reported Liverpool’s admiration for the Monaco midfielder, while stressing that the timing of any midfield signing remains undecided.
Felix Nmecha is apparently another name to watch, with Liverpool chiefs identifying the ex-Man City man as an ‘underrated gem’ who could seriously improve their squad (CaughtOffside).
There have also been links with Feyenoord defender Givairo Read, whom TEAMtalk identified last month as a possible January option.
Those reports suggest Liverpool are considering several ways to improve their squad, with the right side of defence another area worth watching amid some criticism aimed towards Jeremie Frimpong.
Attention has now turned towards a player who already knows the demands of Premier League football.
Liverpool eye Malo Gusto move as agents discuss defender’s Chelsea future
According to Flashscore’s Dean Jones, Malo Gusto’s representatives are holding discussions with Chelsea as questions grow over his future at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool are targeting the France international, but the terms Chelsea would demand are expected to influence whether that interest develops any further.
Jones reports that Chelsea are already sending scouts around Europe to assess potential replacements at right-back, with his reduced involvement this season bringing his place in their plans firmly into focus.
The report suggests January could become an option, although Chelsea have yet to settle on a final course of action.
Jones says Chelsea are reviewing the £67 million valuation they held during the summer, potentially changing the calculations for Liverpool.
Gusto made 49 appearances across all competitions in 2025/26, with three goals and five assists, and Chelsea also used him away from his usual position, including at left-back and in midfield, offering evidence of the versatility he could also bring.
