2026 Rangers signing already thinking about January exit after McInnes decision

Rangers lost ground in the Scottish Premiership title race after being held to a frustrating 2-2 draw by Dundee at Dens Park.

Derek McInnes’ side arrived on a seven-match winning run and had the chance to move above Celtic. Instead, they were forced to recover from a poor start.

Bradley Fink gave Dundee a deserved lead after 37 minutes, but Badredine Bouanani responded five minutes later with a superb finish.

Rangers improved after the break and moved ahead when Nico Raskin struck brilliantly from distance. However, Dan Neil’s mistake allowed Callum Jones to equalise in the 69th minute.

Neil has been praised for his resurgence in form lately, but it was a rare blunder for the ex-Sunderland star.

The visitors pushed for a winner without finding another breakthrough, and Celtic’s victory over Hearts the following day left Rangers four points behind the leaders.

Attention is also beginning to turn towards the January transfer window.

Raskin could be one of the biggest names to leave Ibrox despite his goal at Dundee, with reports in Turkey even claiming Besiktas have reached a preliminary agreement worth around £15 million to sign the Belgian after failing to land him during the summer.

John Souttar is also expected to seek an exit after being pushed out of McInnes’ plans.

The Scotland defender has not featured in a competitive squad this season and will enter the final six months of his contract in January.

Now, 2026 January signing Tochi Chukwuani can be added to the list of players facing an uncertain future.

Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke reports that Chukwuani is ready to consider leaving Rangers in January if his opportunities do not improve.

The Denmark midfielder isn’t currently demanding a transfer. However, he is prepared to assess his options if he remains on the fringes during the final weeks of the year.

McInnes has placed Chukwuani well down his midfield order since taking charge, with that decision seemingly not going down well with the player.

Neil and Raskin have become his preferred midfield partnership, while other options are also believed to be ahead of the 23-year-old.

Chukwuani has therefore struggled to find enough minutes to build any momentum.

His rapid drop is surprising given the impact he made after joining Rangers from Sturm Graz in January.

The Gers paid around £4.3m for Chukwuani, handing him a three-year contract, and he quickly became important under Danny Rohl during the second half of last season.

McInnes has taken the midfield in another direction, leaving Rangers and the player with a difficult decision.

The club won’t want to weaken its squad during a title challenge, particularly if Raskin also leaves, and losing two central midfielders in the same window would force Rangers to find replacements quickly.

Chukwuani, meanwhile, needs regular football at this stage of his career.

Staying at Ibrox without a realistic route into the team would do little for his development or value, but there is still time for the situation to change.

Injuries, suspensions or a change of shape could provide Chukwuani with an immediate opportunity, and McInnes has also warned that Rangers are not expecting a particularly busy winter window.

But if the midfielder continues to watch from the sidelines, he may decide that a move is his best option.

After arriving as an exciting investment only nine months ago, Chukwuani’s Rangers career is already approaching a major turning point.
