Tottenham now seriously interested in signing £84m Brazil international, Ancelotti is a big fan

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign a Brazil international with a huge release clause, as they continue to make plans ahead of the January transfer window.

After failing to find the net in their opening four Premier League matches this season, Tottenham are believed to regard bringing in a new striker this winter, although Dominic Solanke did manage to net his first goal of the campaign in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last time out.

However, the struggling frontline is far from Roberto De Zerbi’s only problem, with Spurs looking particularly poor from a defensive point of view in the 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa, and Jamie O’Hara has been far from impressed by summer signing Jan Paul van Hecke’s displays.

The former midfielder said: “I am sick of it, I am sick of it, I am sick of it, I am sick of it. Who signed Van Hecke, who? He needs sacking, he needs sacking. Brighton have had our absolute pants down; they have had our pants down. Who signed him? Donkey.”

Between the sticks, Antonin Kinsky has remained De Zerbi’s first-choice option, and the one-cap Czechia international has kept two clean sheets in six matches, but the Lilywhites are now looking to add another goalkeeper to their ranks.

Tottenham enter race to sign Otavio

According to a report from Fussball News, Tottenham have now entered the race to sign Cruzeiro goalkeeper Otavio, and they are seriously interested in securing his signature, although there could be competition from the likes of Nottingham Forest and Borussia Dortmund.

A deal may be on the expensive side too, as the Brazilian shot-stopper has a €100m (£84m) release clause included in his Cruzeiro contract.

Moreover, the Brazilian side are determined to keep hold of the 20-year-old beyond this winter, and he remains under contract until 2031, which means it may be difficult for Spurs to get a deal done in the January transfer window.

The youngster is now a senior Brazil international, with Carlo Ancelotti handing him his first cap, and the Italian manager is a keen admirer, saying: “I like him. He’s a goalkeeper who shows composure and confidence.”

However, it is unclear whether Otavio would be able to make an instant impact at Tottenham, considering he is unproven in Europe, but he has started to build up his experience in Brazil, keeping eight clean sheets in 33 senior appearances for Cruzeiro.
