Lewis Hamilton joined Mercedes in 2013, replacing Michael Schumacher in a move many saw as a gamble. It paid off spectacularly: he won the 2014 and 2015 titles as the team dominated the new turbo-hybrid era, then added four more from 2017 to 2020, reaching seven in total and equalling Schumacher’s record. Mercedes took eight consecutive constructors’ championships from 2014 to 2021, while his intense rivalry with teammate Nico Rosberg, who won the 2016 title, defined one of the team’s tensest chapters. The 2021 season ended in heartbreak when Max Verstappen clinched the championship in the controversial Abu Dhabi finale. The ground-effect regulations then left Mercedes struggling, and Hamilton went winless in 2022 and 2023 before winning again at Silverstone and Spa in 2024. After twelve seasons, he left for Ferrari, having achieved 84 wins and 78 poles with the team.
