Aston Villa have wasted little time addressing the departure of Lucas Digne this summer, but Unai Emery may not be satisfied with signing just one new left-back.
The Frenchman has completed a return to Paris Saint-Germain, more than a decade after leaving the European champions for Roma.
PSG activated a release clause reportedly worth around £7m to bring the 33-year-old back to the Parc des Princes, ending a four-and-a-half-year stay at Villa Park.
Villa already appear to have found a replacement for Digne in Atletico Madrid left-back Matteo Ruggeri. They are seemingly closing in on a move for the 24-year-old, who only joined Diego Simeone’s side from Atalanta last summer.
Ruggeri is on course to sign a four-year-deal at Villa Park and would also represent a significant reduction in the age profile of Emery’s defence compared to Digne, 33.
However, by the looks of things, Villa’s interest in strengthening the left side of their defence doesn’t end there.
Aston Villa make enquiry for Joaquin Seys
According to The Sun, Aston Villa have also made an enquiry regarding the availability of Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys.
However, rivals Arsenal and Manchester United have made an approach, whereas Benfica and FC Porto are also keeping an eye on the Belgian.
Club Brugge want around €35m (£30m) to part ways with the 21-year-old, with those at Villa Park feeling Seys would provide Champions League quality to Emery’s squad ahead of their return to Europe’s elite club competition.

Villa have also been impressed by the Seys’ technical quality and physicality.
Champions League quality is something that Seys could offer, going off his displays for Club Brugge last season which forced him into Belgium’s 2026 World Cup squad.
He has almost 100 senior appearances for Club Brugge and would also give Emery the option to use him at right-back as well, providing cover for Matty Cash.
Arsenal and Man Utd’s interest highlights his quality not only now but as a long-term option, and who knows, Emery may end up having Maatsen, Ruggeri and Seys to choose from, should Villa win the race.
