Police were forced to intervene as fight breaks out in away end as Wolves beat Port Vale in the First Round of the Carabao Cup.

Officers joined security and other stewards in trying to calm the situation down, after fists were thrown during the shocking scenes.

The game itself saw Wolves go ahead after just 14 minutes thanks to Adam Armstrong, with Andre and Fer Lopez also getting on the scoresheet in the first half at Molineux.

Port Valeโ€™s Jaheim Headley struck the crossbar in the 7th minute. Armstrong also had the chance to score a second goal, only to see the ball come back off the post.

Port Vale also had penalty, only for ex-West Brom player Mo Faal to step up and make it an easy save for Wolves keeper Daniel Bentley.

Wolves boss Cesar Peixoto said, as per the club website: โ€œI liked the mentality the players showed. I liked that we scored three goals and kept another clean sheet. But there is still a lot to improve. Itโ€™s important that we analyse the game and identify the things we need to work on because, at this stage of the season, itโ€™s normal to make some mistakes. We want to keep improving.

โ€œThere is still a lot to improve, though. Not everything is where we want it to be at the moment, which is normal at this stage of the season. We have to analyse the game, work on it during the week and keep improving.

โ€œIn the first 20 minutes we allowed Port Vale a few opportunities, which is normal because they have quality, but we want to improve those aspects of our game. Overall, Iโ€™m happy because it was our first victory in front of our home supporters. Thatโ€™s important because it gives confidence to us and confidence to the fans as well.

โ€œWe worked [on set pieces] during the week. We spent time preparing certain movements and attacking patterns, and today the players understood the right moments and the right spaces to attack the ball. We analysed the opposition and tried to put those ideas into practice, and we saw a lot of positive things. Those moments are important for us.โ€

He continued: โ€œI told the players that even at 3-0 I wanted them to go for a fourth and a fifth. I always want the team to be better and better. In the second half we managed the game because we were leading comfortably, but I still wanted the players to attack the box, try to score more goals and play with our identity.

โ€œCongratulations to the players because they worked very hard and produced a very good performance. Now we have to keep working hard to take the team to an even higher level.

โ€œAt this stage of the season itโ€™s normal that there are still a lot of things to improve. Every team has areas they need to work on. I think weโ€™re at a good level, but there are still things that will happen over the coming weeks because we need to bring in more players to give us more solutions.

โ€œThe players are working very hard. They are organised, they play with passion and they have quality. I think weโ€™re in a good position to start the season, but there is still a lot of hard work ahead.โ€

Port Valeโ€™s Jon Brady told the clubโ€™s media: โ€œObviously to get the third, it sort of hits you a bit hard. I just thought, you know, I could have come here tonight, played five, four, one block, sit on it, into a block and try and break on them.

โ€œBut I wanted us to be brave as a team, go with a back four tonight. And we went for a back four all night and we went after them at times and really pressed them hard and won the ball back.

โ€œI was really pleased with some of our play. You look at the chances that we have, nearly the same shots as them, our XG is higher, we just didnโ€™t put the ball on the back of the net which would have been nice to tonight and youโ€™re playing a team that are expected to go straight back into the the Premier League.โ€
