£150,000-a-week star who Andoni Iraola loves now on verge of leaving Liverpool
Liverpool are now on the verge of losing one of their most important players, with a 2027 departure starting to look increasingly likely.
Since suffering a 3-0 defeat at home against Manchester City, things have been looking up for Andoni Iraola, with the manager guiding his side to four wins on the bounce in all competitions.
Most recently, the Reds picked up their first Premier League victory at Anfield of the season, courtesy of a 2-0 win against high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion, which moved them up to fourth in the table.
That said, there are doubts surrounding whether Iraola’s side will be able to mount a serious title challenge this season, given that they are arguably lacking in some key positions, with right-back Jeremie Frimpong receiving criticism for his performances.
Issues have also arisen in the middle of the park, with Jamie Carragher saying back in August: “I don’t believe that midfield can function with the personnel in there. For me, it doesn’t work. And it’s not just about personnel, it’s the structure the manager is asking.”
Since then, Trey Nyoni has started to receive increased game time, while Iraola also has a range of other options to choose from in central midfield.

However, Wataru Endo’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, whereas Alexis Mac Allister has just over 18 months remaining on his deal, and there has now been a fresh update on the Argentina international’s future at Anfield.
Alexis Mac Allister on the verge of leaving Liverpool
In a post on X, Sky journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed Mac Allister is now “on the verge” of leaving Liverpool, and in the accompanying report, it is revealed his agents have already started working on a move elsewhere, potentially to La Liga or the Serie A.
Interestingly, it is also revealed the 27-year-old would like to remain on Merseyside, but the club are planning to overhaul their midfield in 2027, and have decided they don’t wish to offer him a new contract.
That stance could be viewed as surprising, considering the former Brighton man has remained a key player this season, making 12 appearances in all competitions, and he has picked up three goals in three Champions League outings.
Iraola was also reluctant to lose the central midfielder in the summer, and said: “I think Alexis has been one of the club’s best players in the past years. He has had a very good World Cup and it’s normal that other clubs want our best players, our good players, it always happens in all the markets.
“But I want to keep my good players. Probably I’m looking forward more to signing new players than losing the ones we have here.”
Liverpool would be parting ways with one of their hardest workers if Mac Allister leaves, with the £150,000-a-week star covering an average of 11.4km per 90 in the Premier League this season, the second-highest figure in the squad, so they should think twice about cashing-in.
