Torres to warm Old Trafford bench

Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti is set to leave £50m striker Fernando Torres on the bench for Sunday's showdown with Manchester United.

According to reports from several UK newspapers, the Italian will deploy Didier Drogba as the main striker in a 4-3-3 system.

Chelsea played Drogba wide right with Torres down the middle against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend in an experiment that Ancelotti freely admits they were 'lucky' to escape with three points from.

The Daily Mail was one of the papers to carry the story on Torres, but warned that Ancelotti will not make a final decision until Chelsea fly up to Manchester as he has been trying to find a way to incorporate the Spanish striker into the fold.

Torres has scored only once since his big January move from Liverpool.

A win for Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday would send them above United on goal difference with just two matches remaining, a turn of events that appeared simply unthinkable just over two months ago.

Chelsea were 15 points adrift of, and 1-0 down to, the leaders on March 1 but fought back to win that match and slowly reel in their rivals with a run of 25 points from 27 games.
