Juventus and Napoli Super Cup Final in China

The Lega Serie A have confirmed that the Italian Super Cup tie between Juventus and Napoli will take place on Saturday 11 August in China.

The Scudetto champions and the Coppa Italia winners will face off in Beijing’s Bird’s Nest. The encounter will kick-off at 14.00 hours Italian time.

Should the game be tied after 90 minutes, extra-time and penalties will follow if necessary.

The Old Lady have won four Italian Super Cups in the past – in 1995, 1997, 2002 and 2003. Napoli have just one, when they demolished Juventus 5-1 in 1990.

The Italian Super Cup made its debut in China in 2009, when Lazio beat Inter Milan 2-1 in the National Stadium. Domestic league champion Inter Milan refused to play in China in 2010 due to a scheduling conflict with the UEFA Super Cup final in Monaco.

The two countries joined forces again in 2011, bringing the Milan derby to China.

According to Wang Hui, who works for the Chinese organizers, the teams will arrive in China in early August to participate in some commercial activities ahead of the game, and Napoli will play another friendly with a Chinese team in a city nearby Beijing before the Super Cup.
