Bugatti Chiron specs leaked

Bugatti is reportedly set to sell 500 models of its Veyron-successor Chiron when it goes on sale later in 2016 – with around 130 deposits already taken.

The company has so far been holding back on crucial details ahead of its official debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, but a Czech magazine has spoken to one lucky future owner, who has revealed the important stats.

Let’s deal with the bragging rights: its 16-cylinder engine will produce 1,500hp and 1,106lb/ft of torque. That equates to a 0-62mph time of 2.2 seconds and a top speed of 290mph.

The original Bugatti Veyron boasted 1,001hp, a 0-62mph sprint of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 252mph.

The Chiron is even faster than the 1,200hp Veyron Super Sport, which was good for 258mph and hits 62mph in 2.5 seconds.

These stats are all slightly more impressive than those previously mooted, meaning we doubt Bugatti will be seeing many cancelled orders or disappointed owners.

Of course, there has been some debate around whether the Chiron should actually go ahead. Bugatti’s owner Volkswagen Group has been in the spotlight recently over cheated emissions tests, with the company having to make dramatic changes to ensure its future.

But VW CEO Matthias Müller has recently said there is ‘high demand’ for the Chiron and, as such, it’ll go ahead – despite a predicted €2million asking price.

Fuel consumption figures are yet to be confirmed but, as Volkswagen attempts to turn over a new leaf, a more efficient hybrid version of the Chiron is expected to arrive later in its life.
