Paula Abdul outshines Cheryl Cole

PAULA Abdul made sure she outshone Cheryl Cole by wearing a plunging red frock when the US X Factor judges and hosts posed together for the first time.
And the 48-year-old, who is 21 years older than the Geordie judge, certainly seemed to catch Simon Cowell's eye as she put her cleavage on show last night.

He was seen looking at her assets admiringly at the 2011 Fox Upfront presentation in New York.

Cheryl's outfit wasn't dissimilar to Paula's bright frock, as she opted to wear a bold orange minidress. But she looked more demure than the former American Idol star after teaming it up with some Vivienne Westwood pearls.

And Simon seemed happy to stand in between the pair on the red carpet at the glitzy event.

Also at the bash were presenters Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones, as well as fourth judge LA Reid.

Nicole lived up to her racy image by wearing a black zipped dress, while former T4 host Steve looked like he'd settled into life in America well with his golden tan.

Auditions kicked off in Los Angeles last week and will continue across America before the show starts airing on Fox in September.

And Simon, 51, reckons the panel have already seen some potential winners.

He said: "I saw two, maybe three people on the first two days who I already think are going to be finalists in this competition. Interestingly enough, they come from the very, very low age range."

"One girl was 12 or 13 and the one girl was 42 years old and they're both in their own way, incredible. And the audience loved them and I'm happy with what we've got so far."

Meanwhile, he said the Americans were warming to Cheryl despite her being virtually unknown there.

Simon said: "Most British people that come over to these shows seem to be mean or rude. But Cheryl, she's not like that. The audience really warmed to her."

But he admitted he wasn't a fan of the voluminous hairstyle she sported for the first day of auditions in LA.

He quipped: "I wasn't really taken by Cheryl's hair. It was the equivalent of her using five gallons of hairspray and then standing in the middle of a hurricane."
