Joss Stone distraught with arrests

JOSS Stone was distraught last night as two men arrested near her home were charged with plotting to rob and commit grievous bodily harm.

The alleged conspiracy was foiled by officers but the horrific thought she was a target has left the singer badly shaken.

A body bag, rope and sword were said to have been found in the men’s car. Joss put on a brave face yesterday but a pal said: “On the outside she’s insisting that she’s fine but inside she is just in pieces.

“This is something that’s shocked her to the core. She can’t get her head around it.

“Joss is praying it’s nothing but she’s rattled, to say the least. “She knows she’s in the public eye and is the focus of attention but this is just too much.” The arrests on Tuesday morning came weeks after a rich list was published which claimed she was worth £9million.

Joss insisted yesterday she was coping. She said: “I’d like to thank everyone for their concern but I’m absolutely fine and getting on with life as normal while the police continue their enquiries.” Last night she told a pal: “This is something out of a horror film. This can’t be happening to me.”

The star was at home in Ashill, Devon, when the men were arrested in Cullompton. Their red Fiat Punto was stopped after neighbours became suspicious and alerted the law. A police source said: “We don’t think they are in an organised crime gang.”

The car and its contents were still being examined. Last night Junior Bradshaw, 30, and Kevin Liverpool, 33, both from Manchester, were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm. Both are due to appear before Exeter magistrates this morning.

Joss, who is close friends with Prince Harry and went to William and Kate’s wedding, is thought to have left her isolated farmhouse home under a blanket yesterday.

She is expected to step up security after holding talks with her management and police.

Next-door neighbour Simon Alsop, 57, said earlier: “She came over for something and had a cup of tea with my wife. She was shocked but she was OK.

“I think she has friends in with her at the moment but she’s holding up fine.”

Joss, who appeared on BBC TV drama series The Tudors as Henry VIII’s fourth wife Anne of Cleeves, is due to begin a short European tour in Amsterdam next month.
