Glee star found dead

Glee star Cory Monteith, best known for his role in the show as Finn Hudson, has been found dead at the Fairmount Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver, Canada. He was 31.

John L Daly, a TV news reporter in the country, tweeted: "Glee's Cory Monteith died @Pacific Rim Hotel Van this aft - poss OD. VPD & Coroner to announce it @10:30p Global News @11p Randene @GlobalBC."

When he missed his check-out time, staff at the hotel went to check on him and found his body. He had been deceased for several hours. His family were informed of his death before it was confirmed at a press conference by police.

Acting Chief Doug LePard read in a statement: "Shortly after noon today, the Vancouver Police received a call from the BC Ambulance Service regarding a sudden death in a room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel at 1038 Canada Place in downtown Vancouver. The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old actor Cory Monteith, who achieved great fame on the popular TV series Glee."

An autopsy is due to take place on Monday.

Fox and the producers of Glee released a joint statement which read: "We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”

Reports have recently emerged that Cory enjoyed a night out with his friends in Vancouver before returning to his hotel room alone early on Saturday morning.

The actor completed a stint in rehab in April for substance addiction, but the Toronto Star reported authorities refused to say if this had anything to do with his untimely death.
