Cheryl Cole and Paula Abdul to join X Factor US

Cheryl Cole will be the most recognisable name to Brits, while Paula Abdul is also a well-known face

Cowell reportedly told Deadline.com that he had also chosen Island Def Jam Music Group chairman Antonio 'LA' Reid as a fellow judge, adding that he 'was my number one choice to sit alongside me on the show'.

Deals are yet to be struck for the judges, but the interview appears to be a clear signal that Cheryl Cole will be heading stateside for the show's US debut.

The article claimed that an insider had said the singer was 'pretty much a shoo-in for the show' and an official announcement can be expected within a week

Describing Cole, Cowell told the website: 'I thought she was bright, cute, knew what she was talking about, ambitious.'

'And you meet someone special a few times in your life. And this girl is special. She's just got a great ability to communicate. She's a great judge. She's smart'

He added that if the American public take to her like people in the UK did then she will do very well in the US.

Cole started her career with Girls Aloud and it was recently revealed that the band will get back together next year to perform as a live act to mark their tenth anniversary.
