Chris Evans revealed as new presenter of Top Gear

TV and radio presenter Chris Evans is to head up an all-new Top Gear lineup, the BBC has announced, putting the brakes on weeks of speculation over who will front the popular motoring show in the wake of Jeremy Clarkson’s sacking.

Evans, 49, who previously denied BBC bosses had approached him to host the BBC2 show, most recently in his TFI Friday comeback special, has signed a three-year deal, the corporation revealed.

The future of Top Gear was thrown into doubt after Clarkson, 55, was fired after punching a producer during a row over catering.

Evans, who currently hosts the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show and the One Show, said: “I’m thrilled, Top Gear is my favourite programme of all time. Created by a host of brilliant minds who love cars and understand how to make the massively complicated come across as fun, devil-may-care and effortless.”
