James Bond will be back next year

After staying away from the screen for close to four years, James Bond will be back on October 26, 2012. The 23rd Bond film, which stars Daniel Craig in the iconic role, will be directed by Sam Mendes of American Beauty fame.

The major reason for Bond being absent for some time is because the studio behind the super successful franchise, MGM, has been in the doldrums financially with a big question mark hanging over its future. Now that the crisis has been averted, production on the film will begin in a rapid pace. MGM is now co-producing the film with Sony Pictures Entertainment.

However, the film will release only a fortnight later (on November 9, 2012) in the United States. Bond No 23 will have its premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square, UK on October 26. Interestingly, the film will be releasing on the 50th anniversary of the franchise. The first James Bond film, Dr No, starring the legendary Sean Connery released in October 5, 1962.
